314 Vocational Services Manager

The Vo-Tech Center Manager works under the supervision of the Area Supervisor.  The Manager is responsible for the supervision of the staff in the conduct of client training in work and social related skills, maintaining the quality of the program, acting as liaison between other agencies and the community, and maintaining the building to meet safety standards. Must be eligible to transport clients in facility vehicle.  Work environment will vary significantly depending upon assigned contracts.   Travel is required to attend in-service programs, or travel to various locations in the community.  The Vo-Tech Center Manager is responsible for the supervision of staff and consumers in sheltered as well as integrated settings. Performs services in accordance with HHSC, HCS, TxHL, TRC and West Texas Centers.

Salary: $16.25

ESSENTIAL TASKS AND PURPOSES:

  • Directs and supervises Training Center staff. Personal care, (bathing, grooming, dressing, toileting, monitoring health and behavioral changes, etc.)Personal care, (bathing, grooming, dressing, toileting, monitoring health and behavioral changes, etc.)
    • Training of staff is conducted in accordance with prescribed guidelines and community standards.
    • Staff is current in required training as it is made available.
    • Staff is knowledgeable of proper consumer training techniques.
    • Staff is aware of job performance through positive performance procedures.
  • Directs and supervises the teaching and training of Vo-Tech Center clients in work and social skills wherever the job demands.
    • Consumers are involved in activities, which benefit their social development.
    • Consumer's vocational skills are being developed through contract work or work crews.
    • Consumers are provided training in integrated settings whenever possible.
  • Act as liaison between other agencies, the community, and West Texas Centers.
    • Local agencies and community are encouraged to continue to aid in the support of the program.
    • Information from the local board is communicated to the Area Supervisor.
  • Submit reports as required.
    • Reports are completed accurately.
    • Reports are completed and sent to appropriate personnel before suspense date.
  • Displays willingness to accept responsibilities.
    • Accepts added responsibilities.
    • Accepts changes as they occur in assigned job duties.
  • Reports to and keeps supervisor informed of problems, progress, and activities relating to the job.
    • Adequate and sufficient information is communicated to Area Supervisor a minimum of once weekly.
  • Ensures proper care, use and control of tools, equipment, supplies, and facilities.
    • Safety standards are met by Vo-Tech Center staff.
    • Inventory of equipment and tools conducted a minimum of twice yearly.
    • Consumers are involved in safety training as needed.
  • Assists with screening and selection of qualified personnel.
    • Staff selection assures effective/efficient operation of the Vo-Tech Center at all times and shows good faith efforts to achieve Affirmative Action goals.
  • Ensures contract work is completed accurately and efficiently.
    • Contract work is completed in accordance with contractor deadlines.
    • Contract work is completed accurately and according to contractor's specifications.
    • Production report is given weekly to Production Specialist.
  • Participates in Inter-disciplinary Team meetings as necessary.
    • Attends yearly staffing when designated as Inter-disciplinary Team member.
    • Attends any case conferences needed throughout the year.
    • Keeps IDT informed of actual/potential problems in a timely manner.
  • Transports consumers in facility vehicles as needed.
    • Operates vehicle in a safe manner, obeying all traffic laws.
    • Reports all traffic violations to Area Supervisor.
    • Informs Supervisor of any change in status of Driver's License and furnishes copy of renewed license when applicable.
  • Documentation
    • Documentation will be legible, accurate, and completed in accordance with WTC policies and procedures.
    • All documentation will be turned in no later than 24 hours of shift or scheduled work period.
  • Complies with On-Call procedures
    • Informs appropriate on-call personnel as specified in on-call procedures.
  • Cell Phone
    • All employees will be required to have a working mobile device, which each employee will receive a monthly $50 stipend for WTC business related use of a personal cell phone
  • Willing to cross train in other areas of the Region.
    • Display willingness to accept additional responsibilities. 
  • Reports possible abuse/neglect.
    • Suspected or witnessed abuse/neglect will be reported immediately.
    • Employee will report abuse and neglect as outlined in WTC policies and procedures.
  • Training
    • Employee must take, pass, and maintain all mandated IDD training components to include CPR & First Aid.

All employees are expected to comply with all West Texas Centers (WTC) Policies and Procedures. This includes but is not limited to the following:

Staff will establish and maintain effective work relationships with individuals served and their families, supervisors, co-workers, and visitors by demonstrating cooperative, courteous, and respectful behavior. Staff will adhere to rules outlined in Confidentiality Statement signed by employee and follow Information Services policy/ procedure guidelines related to security and accountability as a user of WTC network and software application technology. 

All team members will promote and ensures safety guidelines are followed for the work environment by maintaining clean, neat, organized and safe work areas. This includes but is not limited to the following: 

    • Safety concerns are reported to supervisor immediately upon discovery and/or corrected. 
    • Identifies and reports any unsafe factors in the environment. 
    • Reports and/or corrects safety hazards in the work area. 
    • Utilizes universal precautions when handling all blood and body fluids. 
    • Adheres to all standards, policies and procedures of infection control. 
    • Universal precautions are utilized in accordance to WTC policy and procedures. 

Team Members must have and maintain a driving record that is acceptable for insurability through the Center's insurance carrier.  Staff must maintain a safe, inspected and road-worthy vehicle and have a valid Texas Driver's License. Staff must notify supervisor immediately of any driving violations or citations received from law enforcement with no evidence of failure to report. Must meet the criteria that indicate a commitment to safe and responsible driving as defined by the Texas Risk Management Fund.
